A is for ...

A  bonus Story. (for Bedtime or any time)

A is for apple. This one is red and shiney. A is also for Archie, the green grub, which lived in the apple.

Archie  lived alone in the apple and was very, very lonely. He often longed for company; someone to talk with; someone to share his life! Sometimes, Archie would climb out of  the apple to have a look  around outside. That is how he knew he was a grub. One day as he was climbing back through the entrance of his home he heard a bird say  “one day I will be early, and catch that grub, for my breakfast”.

Whenever Archie was hungry he would nibble a little bit more of the apple, and sometimes, when he was out, he would chew some of the leaves that were everywhere. So Archie never went to bed feeling hungry, and he was snug and safe inside the apple. But, Archie always felt sad, and just a bit unhappy! He was restless.

Archie decided he needed some adventure in his life. He made plans to explore the rest of the branch, where his apple hung. He knew the birds were about quite early, so he had ‘better not leave too early,’ or indeed, ‘a bird may eat him for breakfast!’ About mid morning he crawled out into the sunshine and looked carefully about, to be sure there were no birds.

As Archie crawled about on the branch he suddenly saw another grub, just like himself. He was so happy to see her and he called out “Hello, Grub”. She looked around, and said rather crossly,  “ I am not a grub. Why do you call me ‘Grub’?” Archie explained about the bird, which had called him a ‘grub’. She laughed and laughed, and Archie felt hurt because she was laughing at him. Then in a nice, friendly voice she said,  “We are Caterpillars. My name is Alicia. What is yours?”

After they made their introductions, they chatted for quite a while, and Archie forgave her for laughing at him. He was so happy, he didn’t notice it was getting very late. He decided he was not going back to live alone in his apple, but that he would stay near Alicia, because he liked company.

So, just before night-fall they each spun themselves a little silky, brown coat, to keep warm through the night, and to keep themselves hidden from the birds. They both fell into a very deep sleep, and did not wake for a long, long time. Then one warm and sunny day, Archie began to wake up! He yawned, and stretched,…and yawned again …. and stretched some more……and as he did, he split his little brown coat! Then, he remembered Alicia, and she was also splitting open her silky, brown coat. They struggled to be free, and emerged…. with big wings, which they dried in the sun …….Archie and Alicia  had changed from caterpillars into……….

 (B for) ……………….beautiful Butterflies…………………

I hope you have fun with stories for the little ones, for each of the motifs!!
