Microhabitat Field Day 29th June 2008

An innovative demonstration site was set up on a property in Bournda to reintroduce ground layer or 'microhabitat' to an ecosystem where this component was lacking. We are trialling sveral different types of artificial material aiming toattract native small reptiles, mammals, insects and other invertebrates. Click here for a more detailed review and resources for creating microhabitat on your property.

Grassy Ecosystems Walk & Talk 19th April 2008

Over 30 people gathered in Brogo recently for a field day on management of native grassy woodlands.
The CMN organised the day because of the growing interest in recognising and managing native grassy woodlands. We teamed up with Canberra based group ‘Friends of Grasslands’ (FoG) who came down to get first hand experience of more coastal grassy ecosystems. Native Plant Propagation Workshop 8th March 2008

The second in our ‘Grow Your Own’ series, our native plant propagation workshop was one of our best yet. Attended by 16 people the workshop was so popular, bookings exceeded capacity. We are planning another workshop in spring, so if you are interested let us know and we will put you on our invite list. Click here for a full review and resources to help you propagate your own natives at home.

Panboola Bird Walk Sunday 17th February

This walk was aimed at skilling members with the different techniques for monitoring birds on their own property. Birds are easy to find and easy enough to identify. Monitoring species diversity, populations, movements and habits of birds is an easy and rewarding way that you can keep track of your vegetation management activities. Click here for a review of the walk and to download resources about monitoring birds at home.

Native Seed Collection Workshop 17th Nov 07

Growing your own native plants for revegetation works on your property can be rewarding and save you money. Native seed collecting was part one in the "grow your own" series of workshops. Participants were shown how to harvest, sort, store and record native seed. Click here for a review and notes from the day or see our events page for the next workshop on seed propagation.

Fire as a Management Tool 25th Aug 07

Having heard from many members about their interest in using fire to manage vegetation the CMN held a field day looking at techniques and management issues related to fire and vegetation management. Click here for a review

Vegetation Corridors 11th July 07

This was a 2 hour walk on a Moran’s Crossing dairy farm where corridors of native vegetation have been planted along lane ways and paddock edges to increase stock shade, manage nutrient runoff and provide a safe environment for poddy calves. The walk outlined the processes and logistics of the work carried out and the benefits of the vegetation to the dairy system. click here for a review

A Walk in the Grass 14th April 07

A walk at Kameruka looking at the endangered ecological community ‘Candelo Dry Grass Forest’ click here for a review

Local Links

Local Links are a series of gatherings held in different localities around the Valley with the aim of networking amongst locals and sharing native vegetation management skills and knowledge. So far we have held Local Links at Brogo and Candelo. Click here for reviews. If you are keen to get a Local Link happening in your area just contact us and we'll make it happen. (Did we mention that we provide great food and good coffee!)
