Poppy benton was born in 1975 in Weymouth England. She now lives in Tanja south east NSW. Poppy has been working with slip cast porcelain for the past six years. Her fine porcelain beakers have a certain touchability about them. The subtle pastel glazes that poppy uses on her forms are reminicent of another time. Poppy also created a range of tribal looking vases. the vases are decorated with the sgraffito technique, and then oxides are rubbed into the surface of the vase and then washed off. Resulting in a surface with a depth far beyond its physical form. Ceramics isn't the only medium that Poppy works with, she also paints and draws always with the progressive theme of the portrait. The portraits are not real representations of actual people, but portraits of feelings, emotions and moods. Her portraits are introspective and autobiographical, but I think anyone could find one that represents them.
