Judith Lamb was born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1954. Currently living and working in Candelo on the edge of the National Park Far South Coast of NSW. "We are children of the landscape; it dictates our behaivior and thought, in the measure to which we are responsive to it." This body of work is considered not only as representing nature but as being itself a work of nature. For the technique involves the art of artlessness, the 'controlled accident': images on cloth are formed as naturally as the leaves and trees which they depict. The traditional method of extracting native dyes is to take a quantity of leaves, equal in weight to the textile to be dyed, boil them for at least one hour to extract the dye particles, strain, immerse the textile in liquid and process until the desired depth of colour is obtained. Up to forty-five minutes may be required to reveal the full colour potential of a species.
