Interpol

Interpol are a New York outfit with a distinctive take on the post-punk sound. Frequent comparisons to Joy Division don't really do the band justice; there are vocal similarities but the music is quite different. Interpol make dark, bass-heavy music, with a clever use of tension. They like to use the choppy guitar riffs often associated with New York indie (pioneered back in the ‘60s by the Velvet Underground), but with a Teutonic edge.

Interpol released their first album Turn on the Bright Lights in 2002 to wide critical acclaim. Antics, their second album came in 2004, showing a purer distillation of the Interpol sound and a stronger vocal performance from Essex-born Paul Banks. Antics achieved both critical and commercial success for the band. Interpol's third album is due out in July 2007, to be called Our Love to Admire.
