The word was coined out of two – PERMANANCE and AGRICULTURE
A current definition is... Consciously designed landscapes which mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature, while yielding an abundance of food, fibre and energy for provision of local needs.
People, their buildings and the ways they organise themselves are central to permaculture. The vision of permanent (sustainable) agriculture has evolved to one of permanent (sustainable) culture.
It belongs in the academic area of Systemic Thinking and is information intensive that draws the information from, Indigenous Cultures, Scientific Facts, Pioneering Skills but most of all, from the lessons of Nature itself.
Permaculture is as much to do with how we DESIGN organic food gardens as it is with how we DESIGN governance of our bioregions.
