John Champagne

John Champagne, PDC 1992

For the past 10 years, John has been an activist involved at a local level implementing permaculture into his property, his life and his local community.

As President of the Sapphire Coast Producers Association (SCPA) for 7 years, he positioned sustainability as the guiding principle for new rural industries emerging within the region and has actively promoted a local organic food industry. Together with his PDC tutor, Hugh Gravestein the South Coast Field Days was initiated and first presented in 1995 and ran for eight years.

Working locally as a permaculture designer and developer John led a consultative design approach toward the development of a “Food Forest” playground at Mumbulla School for Rudolf Steiner Education in Bega.

He is currently facilitationg the Design team for the Bega Eco Neighbourhood Developers that is putting together a development application for an urban subdivision under community title on the edge of Bega.

In July 2008 John instigated the formation of SETT - South East Transition Towns that formed a Steering Group to progress the 5 shires of - Bega Valley, Eurobodella, Snowy Mountains, Monaro, Bomballa and Far East Gippsland.
