Managed Funds
1. Managed Funds offer a greater diversity of assets within this sector, which, for the average investor provides lower risk 2. Funds are available from ‘traditional’ managers, or from specialist ‘boutique’ fund managers 3. More funds are becoming available as the sector shows greater investor interest
Listed Equities (Shares)
1. The description of Ethical or SRI stocks include many companies currently listed on the ASX as well as “New Technology” companies, listed and unlisted 2. Investing in direct equities allows access to the full value of franking credits, as well as the volatility of the capital value (both + and -) 3. From time to time, rankings on ASX listed companies are published, which along with published research, can help to take out the guesswork 4. Investing in direct equities also allows exposure to “situation” investments (eg. Alternative energy) that may complement an existing portfolio or take advantage of a particular investors interest
Property
1. May be determined by any number of factors, including construction, how and who tenants a building, the way that rents are agreed upon, access to public transport/infrastructure, energy consumption aspects etc. 2. The availability of funds/trusts investing in Ethical Property is still in its infancy, limited investor access to commercial managers at the moment.
Fixed Interest
1. The principal issue here is whether the institution (in which you invest) will, or is likely to, use your deposit to lend to or support businesses or industries to which you do not have a favourable disposition. 2. A very small number of “ethical” bank accounts are available, that offer no fees, and allow the investor to donate all or a portion of the interest to charity 3. ‘Micro-credit’ facilities may be supported by donations or investment
