| ATTENTION ALL CONCERNED BEGA VALLEY RESIDENTS & RATEPAYERS |
|---|
Sewage Management is a big issue for residents of the Bega Valley and a recent tender process for a sewage management project in Millingandi calls into questions the Councils priorities in terms of achieving low cost - high value for ratepayers' dollars as well as achieving minimum impact on the environment for its infrastructure & maintenance works.
What this Site is About- alert fellow Bega Valley residents and ratepayers to issues surrounding a recent tender process for a sewage management scheme.
- inform residents that the Bega Valley Council may not have adequately considered a tender proposal that offered better value for money and less impact on the environment.
Given current concerns with many aspects of sewage management in the shire this site urges local elected representatives to give due consideration to all proposals and recommendations for alternative sewage treatment and recycling. The information, issues and concerns identified on this page have been provided by John Boulton, Consultant Engineer, Wolumla.
Please review the issues highlighted on the Issues page and consider contacting your local councillor for further explanations and clarification of the tender processes associated with contract 07/07. A list of email addresses for your local councillors is provided on the Councillor Emails page.
Proposed Sewage Management Scheme
A development application for the future expansion of two caravan parks in Millingandi was approved on 22nd April 2008. Improved sewage management infrastructure is needed to facilitate the expansion of the parks. Adjoining Merimbula Lake, the scheme (to be paid for by the owners of the caravan parks) would direct sewage from the development to Council's contract operators of the Merimbula plant, by pump station and rising main. It is common knowledge that this plant is experiencing effluent disposal problems.
Tender Submissions - Alternate Proposal
Council has received an Alternate Proposal for tertiary treatment and recycling of the standard effluent produced by this process to drinking water requirement, meeting the standards used in France, the Netherlands and Japan. The Alternate Proposal recommends a proven system and is in use at the Argyle Mine and installed at Bungendore Defence Project. John Boulton, a consultant engineer, assisted in the preparation of the alternate proposal response to the tender. He is highly qualified to consider and advise on waste water treatment and has a wealth of experience in this and related fields; the alternate Proposal accompanied a conforming tender, it set out environmental and site specific advantages in addressing the environmental factors outlined in the tender.
