Flathead are on the go as anglers drifting the sand can be rewarded with nice big sandys and tigers hitting the deck. A few gummy sharks are in with them and yes the gear pinching chinaman leatherjackets are about most days. Some anglers have resorted to using long shanked hooks and targeting chinaman on the bad days because even though not preferred once headed and skun a tasty feed can be had. Reef fishing has been a bit slow and still we are waiting for the much anticipated autumn run of snapper. Gamefishing is worth a shot and one of our junior young guns, Daniel Bridle, has caught a pending Australian and NSW record black marlin. The fish was caught on 24 kilo line and weighed in at 163.5 kilo. Any Gamefishing person would be happy with this capture but it makes it even sweeter when a junior is able to successfully angle and catch a fish of this size under GFA rules. For those that prefer calmer waters lake fishing is good with plenty of dusky flathead, bream, trevaly and tailor on the chew and fishos had a great time catching prawns in most of our local estuaries.Beach fishing can be okay with whiting, bream, tailor and salmon all found during the week. Don't forget our bus trip and dinner in Tathra on 29th February. Put your name down at the club or ring Tom Scott 64950530 if you intend on going. The fishing club seafood tray will be at the Chook and The Ox this Thursday 5.30 pm and the Spencer Park clubrooms will be opened 6.30 pm Friday night by Darragh Reynolds and Andrew Buckland. Everyone's welcome so grab a friend or bring the family. Fishing report about 7.45 prior to the beer and seafood raffle.
May your reel scream, Mex.
