Private Bushwalk
The 1.5 km bushwalk begins near the barbecue hut at the nursery and is a must for nature lovers and birdwatchers alike.
The walk travels through tall coastal forest and traverses a series of gentle ridges and protected gullies before arriving at a large dam hidden in the trees. This is a haven for waterbirds and is a peaceful spot for a picnic lunch. The return loop goes through a partly cleared paddock where groups of Eastern Grey Kangaroos are often seen grazing.
Observant visitors will notice that the character of the forest changes continuously along the track. There are at least 12 different species of Eucalypt on the property and a wealth of interesting understorey plants.
Some of the highlights of the walk include the large stately Monkey gums with an understorey of ferns and shrubs including the purple flowered native indigo, the massive old Red Bloodwoods whose hollow branches are home to numerous birds and animals including the Yellow-bellied Glider.
Some of the animals that you are most likely to encounter include Red Necked Wallabies, Eastern Lyrebirds, Goannas, Glossy Black Cockatoos and Whipbirds.
The track is an easy grade and is suitable for all ages. For safety reasons, children should always be accompanied by an adult. Please time your walk to return to the nursery before closing time (5pm).
