The Tathra Single Track network is for Mountain Bikes (or walkers). It has been built by local bike enthusiast, Andy Johnson, and is a real credit to his dedication to creating a real alternative for energetic youth. It's not bad fun for older riders either!
Due to the informal nature of the tracks there are not any signs indicating the tracks starts or ends. It is just a matter of looking around in the areas as directed below and finding a track. Once you have found one, start riding along it and you will probably find others to explore.
The tracks range in difficulty from moderate to challenging and there may be sections where individual riders will decide to navigate on foot. Some tracks are built with the obstacles easier to negotiate in one direction and difficult in the other.
One network of tracks cris-cross the Tathra Forest behind Tathra and are accessible from the ends of Fauna Grove and Panarama Drive, or via the Treatment Works (about 1km along the Andy Poole Drive Bike/Walking Track. These tracks are also accessible from Thompsons Drive, about 1.5km along or just before the houses start. Where you start will make a difference to the degree of difficulty. One end (the high end) is at the Tathra Forest entrance about 1.5km along Thompsons Rd, 2nd track on right from the Tathra Rd. The other end (the low end) is about 1/2km in on the track that that goes past the Tathra Treatment Works. These points are not particularly easy to find and will need a bit of searching or local knowledge. i.e find someone who has riden it before.
The best way of describing the Tathra Forest Single Track is through the following selection of photos on the right of this page. They are presented in the order of starting at the Treatment Works end.
Another network of tracks is accessed from behind the Tathra Fire Shed or from the White Rock entry road to Bournda National Park (opposite Kianinny Cabins entry on Tathra Rd), or opposite the Tathra Rd & Thompsons Drive intersection. again, you will just have to ride around these entry points and find a start.
The staff at Tathra Beach & Bike, on Andy Poole Drive, can help with directions and they are also very good with bike repairs.
Have fun ................................
