Hygiene Standards

AIM
To ensure that children using this Scheme have the best possible hygiene standards to protect their health and well being.  To ensure that Occupational Health and Safety Standards are maintained for Carers and Staff.

RATIONALE
Children’s good health is of primary importance to our Scheme. To achieve a high standard of health, good hygiene standards have to be observed and maintained by   Carers and Co-ordination unit Staff at all times.

These standards will not only maintain good health in the children but they will promote good health amongst the Carers and Staff if appropriate protocols are developed.

The Co-ordination unit will develop these protocols and train the Carers to use them in their daily interactions with the children in their care.

STRATEGIES
1)  When a new Carer starts, hygiene protocols will be in her new workbook provided by the Co-ordination unit. Discussion on these will be part

of the initial induction and training.

2)  Carers contracted to this Scheme shall attend a NEW CARER WORKSHOP  during their first year with the Scheme.  In the New Carer Workshop hygiene protocols shall be discussed further with all Carers. Current protocols shall be available from the Co-ordination unit at all times.

3)  Co-ordination Unit Staff will help the Carers establish hygiene protocols in their homes, and will check during visits that these protocols are maintained.

4)  The Co-ordination unit will review and upgrade hygiene protocols regularly as standards of health change.
