AIM Family Day Care Co-ordination unit recruits and selects Carers who are representative of the local community and who are able to meet and maintain the standards expected by the scheme, the State and Australian Governments and the community. RATIONALE Carers are an integral part of the scheme, and as such, are expected to work with Staff toward the efficient provision of care to meet the needs of children and their families. Carers are registered to provide care through the licensed organizational body, however they are deemed to be self employed and therefore are responsible for their own business practices, including scheme and legislative requirements. STRATEGIES The process used in considering the suitability of prospective Carers includes, but will not be limited to the following: Prospective Carers • Will be provided with an application pack containing information and forms to complete regarding their suitability and ability to provide registered care. • Should be of suitable age and maturity • Must complete a Prohibited Persons form and be subject to a Working with Children Check along with all adult household members. • Must provide the Coordination Unit with contact details of two referees. • Must provide proof of identity and residing address. • Must hold a current First Aid certificate. • Must complete a risk assessment of their home in conjunction with the Coordination Unit, ensuring an adequate standard is met for the provision of the service. • Will be informed of their obligation to attend Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) training and Child Protection training within the first year of registration. • The Coordination Unit will assess the prospective Carer in regards to: • Knowledge, experience, and/or training in childcare • Attitude and commitment to the aims of the scheme • Age, maturity, health, physical and emotional ability to care for young children • Being able to communicate with adults and children • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity towards the needs of young children and their families including a range of cultures, religions and disabilities. • Will be required to attend orientation and induction and a minimum of three training sessions per year relevant to their work. • Will be informed of the necessity of ongoing unannounced home visits by Co-ordination unit Staff during working hours An application may be rejected for reasons that include, but will not be limited to the following: • Unsatisfactory Working with Children Check of Applicant or household members • Unsatisfactory character of the applicant or household members • References unavailable or unfavorable • Unsatisfactory risk assessment of the applicant’s home • Inability to demonstrate the capacity to supervise and care for the children adequately • Refusal by prospective Carer to comply with an obligation within scheme and legislative requirements REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATIONS AND OTHER STANDARDS NSW Children’s Services Regulation 2004 Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000 and Regulations 2001 (NSW).
