Early in 2005, Forests NSW announced it would log Murrah Compartments 2032, 2035, 2051, 2052, 2056, 2057, 2058, 2059 as well as compartments in Mumbulla SF.
Logging was to be "High Intensity", some of it "thinnings" of regrowth from previous logging. Virtually all of it would end up at the Eden chipmill for export as woodchips.
Logging started in February.
On Thursday 2 June last year Forests NSW anounced logging would cease in the Murrah Forest. "We think it might be prudent to go elsewhere for the time being," said FNSW Marty Linehan. Not a total victory. The "moratorium" was for three months and other forest have been destroyed in its place, but a good result for Murrah campaigners. Logging has still not resumed and "consultations" have not been concluded.
