Commercial vessels which come into survey after 1 July will also be required to make the switch to a 406MHz beacon.

Fishing Reports - Merimbula's latest fishing reports are compliments of the Merimbula Big Game & Lakes Angling Club, with additional fishing reports from Headland Charters. Reports for previous months are archived under the relevant month.
Bad weather and high fuel prices has stopped alot of game fishing and deep sea fishing trips lately. Anglers fishing inshore have had varying success but even catching flathead can be hard as without boats on the water they can be very elusive to find.
Best news of all is the absence of gear stealing chinaman leatherjackets. Reef fishing is probably the best shot with catches of snapper, morwong and leatherjackets still being reported. Estuary fishing is also a little tough but a few salmon, tailor, trevaly and bream are still about. Headlands and beaches are also producing salmon and tailor and is a great spot to fish whilst we have the cold westerly blowing this time of year.
May your reel scream, Mex.
There is not a lot happening on the fishing front, at the moment. The wind has been howling and those who have got out have found that the fish are not readily on the chew and the ease at staying home on the couch with a fire is more appealing. The re-convened 16th Merimbula Broadbill Tournament was scheduled on 11th-12th July but only one boat ventured our wide due to unfaverable weather reports. Sharks were caught but no broadbill were encounted. Closer in, a few snapper are being caught on the reefs and with persistance a few flathead and big gummy shark have been caught. There are a few small salmon in the surf with some bigger tailor also about. The estuaries and lakes are firing, with salmon, tailor, bream and trevally. Local wharfs and headlands are worth a shot with squid in numbers turning up. May your reel scream, Mex.
Fishing is still great for anyone that is finding it hard to justify burning fuel and money for a feed as both the estuaries and inshore reefs are firing with most species on the chew. The grounds wide of Merimbula are in the to hard basket for most as winds and seas haven't been conducive for anglers to find gamefish or deep water species such as harpooka and blue eye.
Local wharfs and headlands are worth a shot as squid are about and even the beaches are starting to fish a little better with salmon on the bite. Were hoping for a change in the weather this Friday and Saturday night for a chance at the mighty Broadbill Swordfish and can only keep our fingers crossed for crews to have a shot. Fishing is done 18 -25 miles offshore and is only done if conditions are near perfect. Rock fishing is also a great option with winds mainly from the south and species such as leatherjacket and drummer should be keen to take a bait.
May your reel scream, Mex.
