Community Leadership

Social reform can take many forms. The broad definition of social reform is just attempting any change in society. Social reforms come up at the request of the people. Eventually the people will become sick of their position, and the political opposition too weak to hold back the reforms.

A reform movement is a kind of social movement that aims to make gradual change, or change in certain aspects of society rather than rapid or fundamental changes. In the Bega Valley we have our own examples of social reform the Transition Town movement www.transitiontown.org.au empowering the community to reclaim control of their community.  Political pressure by social reform groups is the way communities can have a voice and be assertively in control of their community.  The Bega Valley LETS system is a parrallel social reform process active in our local community challenging our society's currency exchange system and providing a viable locally sustainable alternative to money www.bvlets.org.au
