Arrangement Ideas: I would recommend that you find other sources for this tune and work your own arrangement from a full fiddle setting of the melody. You can then better see where I'm going (and what I'm doing with the tune) when I integrate various rhythm figures into the arrangement. Lost Indian would generally be played pretty fast, which is why I favour this thumb strum style over the finger picking approach I adopted with Coloured Aristocracy (say.) I simply can't pick fast enough to keep up when the clock's ticking at 200. It's not just speed though. I really like the spare sketching of rhythm and melody that this style engenders. With this much room to breath, you have endless opportunities for subtle variation each time through the piece. Listen to some claw hammer banjo to get an idea of the sound I'm aiming for with this arrangement. Maybe you can come up with better ways to capture that delicate style on guitar.
Whereas with picking arrangements like "Coloured Aristocracy" there is a definite melody line (upstem notes) and bass line (downstem notes), I feel these thumb strum pieces are more accurately represented in notation with the sketched melody and rythm in the bass and high string drones (which contribute to both) ringing in the upstem line. Don't worry too much about the timing of the drone notes, just get the thumb bits right and let the high strings ring out where it seems appropriate.
