Ironically while the 2008 Tomato Taste Challenge was referred to as 'The Big Red' neither of the winners was a red tomato.
Winner: Broad Ripple Yellow Currant. This was grown by Grade 4 Mumbulla School students. A small, round, very productive and tasty, sweet tomato. 2008 was not a good tomato growing season in the Bega Valley but this variety still performed excellently.
Runner-up: Golden Jubilee. Grown by Bruno & Eve Hofstetter at Brogo this is a largish gold/orange tomato. This heirloom variety was first released in 1943.
