Notice the way this overtly square little tune achieves a subtle natural syncopation with it's dotted quarter notes. (See bars 2 and 4).

I've enhanced it's country ragtime feel by incorporating bass line movement via chord substitutions. For example in bars 6-9 instead of playing I 1 I 1 I 5 I 5 I , I have gone with I 1, 6 I 4 I 2 I 5 I .

This adds harmonic interest, gives the basses a nice moving line and counterpoint to the melody and,importantly for me, doesn't add over much to the difficulty of the fingering.
