Bemboka Community Website

WELCOME TO THE BEMBOKA COMMUNITY WEB SITE - The photo above is from the south of town looking down over the valley to the north and over to the escarpment which is a spectacular feature of the local scenery.

Bemboka is the northwest gateway to the Bega Valley from Canberra and Cooma - the Snowy Mountain Highway passes directly through our town.

Bemboka - history of the name - The name covers the areas originally known as Colombo and Lyttleton. In July 1894 the Australian Government announced the new name of Bemboka. The Aboriginal meaning is "high peak".  Our respects to the original inhabitants of SE Australia - the group of Aboriginal tribes known as the Yuin.

Do You Want to be Part of History?
The aim is to produce a dinner, which will be grown, produced or manufactured by the Community of Bemboka and catered by local chefs.

You may be familiar with the eat local concepts, perhaps you have participated in a 200 km or 100 mile dinner, well we in Bemboka are going to blow them completely away.

Our intent is unique, record breaking, historic!
We plan that 90% of the innovative menu will showcase fresh produce grown, produced, manufactured or sourced from within a 15km radius of the Post Office in Bemboka.  Our research indicates that this has never been done before. It is a World first, and you can pledge to be a part of it!

09!09!09! The Last meeting was at the Bemboka Hall September 9th - click here for details.  Huge success with nearly 40 attending.  More growers and local food based business welcome to get involved.

Proceeds to show society
Proceeds from the Bemboka Banquet will go to supporting the Bemboka Show Society and to help maintain its traditional flavour.
The evening will also provide the opportunity to raise awareness and support connections within and between like minded communities on a global scale to recognize that in order to cultivate sustainability in must begin in the collective “backyard”.
