This young one one is full of life and energy - very cute.

 

 

 

 

 Older - the voracious hunter.

 

Mating on one of our orchard nets - I hope they know what they're doing. Those spiny legs and the tangly netting don't look like a good combination. 

 

 

Ah...so that's what those things are. Praying Mantis egg cases are produced as a foam which quickly harden. They can contain several hundred eggs.

 

 

 

 

Here the grasping capability of the front legs is shown. Three simple one lens eyes, called ocelli, (additional to the prominent compound eyes) are visible on the forehead.
