Photo shows A couple of 1.5 kilo salmon caught from Merimbula Lake during the week.

Fishing has still been a bit slow over the past week but some encouraging reports are starting to happen as the local waters start to warm. One boat had a good day at sea and reported over 20 flathead caught and some of the boats fishing the reefs have found the odd snapper and morwong with plenty of leatherjackets on the chew.

Salmon and tailor have been the stand out fish and have been caught on the beaches, estuaries and headlands. The local wharfs and rocks are producing steady catches  of calamari and arrow squid for fishermen fishing early mornings and late arvos.

Some anglers tried prawning in Merimbula Lake finding huge numbers but unfortunately all were miniscule in size. Lets hope they reach a decent size over the next couple of months.

As of this weekend the club will be holding a 4.00pm Sunday afternoon seafood raffle at the Merimbula Bowling Club. 15 trays of prawns, oysters and crabs will be on offer. This Friday Michael Hampson and Darragh Reynolds will open the Spencer Park clubrooms for members and the public 6.30 pm. A beer and seafood raffle will be held prior to the local fishing report so grab a friend and head down for a fun night.

Fishing still hasn't changed over the last week with some very frustrated anglers wondering if the flathead are ever going to return. The obvious answer is yes but just when is  the  64 dollar question.

Hopefully the flathead and inner reefs will fire over the next few weeks as the water is due to warm up at any time. We are all also praying to the fishing gods that the gear pinching chinaman leatherjackets don't come on the bite with them.  Luckily the rocks, beaches and estuaries are producing salmon and tailor with a few bream, blackfish and whiting being taken and hopefully duskys will be on the list very soon.

Gamefishinkg is worth a shot with reports of yellowfin north of town and I'm sure that once the weather settles boats will venture to the shelf for pelagics and have a drop for blue-eye and harpooka.

Bill Pryor and Tom Scott are on bar duty this Friday night so grab a  friend and come on down for a fun night. Members and the general public all invited with the beer and seafood raffle held after the local fishing report around 7.30pm.

Fishing is still slow outside with flathead fishing and inner reef fishing tough for most anglers. Estuary fishing is a better choice with salmon and tailor in the Pambula River and Merimbula Lake firing with plenty of salmon, tailor, trevally and the odd flounder or two.

Dusky Flathead are a bit quiet but once the water warms up the fishing should greatly improve.  40 club members travelled to Mallacoota last weekend and had a ball catching bream, dusky flathead and trevally. A banquet was had by all on Saturday night and prizes were handed out on the Sunday to successful anglers. The feedback has been great and I'm sure that we will be back for a weekend away at Mallacoota again next year.

A reminder to all members that the new fishing season is upon us so its time to make sure that you are financial and paid up in other various competitions such as the Carton Club or Tinny Tournament.   Dave Nash from Merimbula Mowers & Marine will be at the clubhouse on September 26th for a talk on boat motor maintenance and is a must for all boat owners. Members and the general public are all invited to this informative night with Dave kicking off around 7.30 pm. Darragh Reynolds and Barry Francis will be on bar duty at the club this Friday 6.30pm . Beer and seafood raffle will be after the local  fishing report so grab a friend and come on down for a fun night.

Fishing is still slow for anglers fishing for flathead and snapper but boats fishing wide over the shelf caught quality table fish including harpooka and blue-eye trevalla in plentiful numbers. Lake and estuary fishing is still up there with salmon and tailor to be found but can prove to be a little tricky to hook on occasions.

Beach fishing is the same with the northern beaches being the pick of them all. Rock fishing is also worth a shot with drummer and leatherjacket being caught on a regular basis and is a great way to spend a day providing caution is used when fishing any location.

Over 45 club members are heading to our  Mallacoota Fishing Getaway on 12th -14th September. The club will be running a fishing competion with prizes for longest bream, dusky flathead and plenty of other categories including  the  prestigious Wally Award. The club will also be putting on a Saturday night meal at a very reasonable price so please ring Tom 64950530 if you haven't booked and intend on attending.  Peter Fairbairn and Darragh Reynolds will open the Spencer Park clubhouse 6.30pm this Friday night. As always a range of alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks will be available so bring a friend and have a crack in our beer and seafood raffle held after the local fishing report.
