TATHRA ACTION GROUP was formed from concern by local residents about the proposed development know as the Tathra River Estate - Stage 2.
Concerns with the development are summarised below:
PROPOSAL: A high-density residential development of 300 dwellings is proposed that will increase the Tathra population by a massive 50%. 300 houses and units =800 people= congestion in traffic and infrastructure. Do we want our town changed to this extent with a development of this scale?
POLLUTION: Studies indicate that effluent disposal and new roads could result in pollution and degradation of the Bega River mouth and estuary. If you fish or swim in the Bega River or at Tathra Beach, this could affect YOU.
ENVIRONMENT: Studies show the vulnerability of the estuarine fauna and flora and their habitats in this area. Should we risk the estuary?
COSTS: Some costs of this development (sewerage) will be borne by current residents and ratepayers. Are you happy to pay for this?
OUR HERITAGE: Tathra's reputation as a pristine environment nestled between National Parks and as NSW's Cleanest Beach is threatened. How will this development affect our community target of 50/50 by 2020?
