New Design Mobile Compost Bin

October '09

Graham Roberts (local gardener) showed us an example of his design for a mobile compost bin. Murray used his idea, but adapted it, so that instead of drilling holes to secure chicken wire, he used slits in irrigation piping to secure hardwood slats.

This design is excellent, as the bin is lightweight & provides ample ventilation. When the compost is ready to use, the bin is simply pulled open so you can shovel the compost to wherever it's needed OR you can place the bin in the exact location you need the compost, so when it's ready, just open & remove the bin, leaving the composted material exactly where it's needed.

Thanks Graham & Murray!

Nancy and Jean watched Sophie Thomson in an episode of "Gardening Australia" on ABC TV, (2/5/09), where she demonstrated a very simple method of creating a compost bin.

Today, they used Sophie's "Fact Sheet" (see link: Title "How to Build a Simple Compost Bin") to build their first bin.

and "yes" it really was simple and easy!
