Welcome to BRAIR
BRAIR HAS RELOCATED CLICK HERE
BRAIR has been established to set the global standard in cross-communication between artists, the community they live in, and schools. The site showcases work and critical responses, highlights coming events and current projects in the region, and provides a platform for research into the arts for educational institutions at any level.
The BRAIR project director is Dr Tim J Metcalf.
The Bega Valley Shire is one of Australia's poorest in conventional economic terms. Perhaps this is why it is home to a rich cultural heritage.
BRAIR seeks to deepen that heritage, and to make more of it available. BRAIR is already working to increase the linkages and co-operation between artists in all mediums. Through BRAIR an artist's work, curriculum vitae, and standing in the critical community can be discovered. Artists can be approached to become involved in community, educational and business projects.
BRAIR seeks to enhance the networks already in place, and to illuminate the wealth of experience to be found in the Bega Valley Shire.
A happy, functional, forward-looking, and thoughtful community requires its artists. We are fortunate to have so many excellent practitioners in their chosen fields.
Come in!
Welcome artists to BRAIR.
BRAIR has been created for professional artists. Amatuer work is equally important to us at Begavalley.com, but due to its potential volume will be located elsewhere on the site.
A 'professional' artist is not a straightforward category to define, but for the purposes of this project means authors with work published by independent editors and publishing houses; visual artists with at least one exhibition in an independent gallery (not including art school exhibitions); performing artists and companies with an official structure and paying audiences; musicians with independantly produced albums; and galleries.
Artists are approached in person to participate in BRAIR. No internet skills are required, and each person or group will be able to modify their own site content. If you believe you should be represented on this site please contact me, Dr Tim J Metcalf, via the web, or in person through the community.
BRAIR has been created to help students, teachers, and artists come together, either in the street, or as part of a virtual community.
BRAIR seeks to encourage students in their own work by showcasing the best their region has to offer. It hopes to improve their knowledge of artists: how they work, what they think, and what the academic critical community thinks.
BRAIR is a seed for the imagination as well as a professional research tool.
