Good Evening
Welcome to our 32nd Volleyball season. Yes, that’s right, Volleyball competitions have been held now for over 30 years running. Some players who started this association 32 years ago are still with us today. Congratulations to these veterans and thank you for your long term commitment
.

This year we will have 15 teams participating in our competition, with 5 teams in each grade.

Again Narooma High is strongly represented with 5 teams across all grades. To the students from Narooma, thank you for your commitment to travel each Thursday evening to Bega to participate.

Competition Structure:

Tonight’s games are classed as warm up games and final scores of tonight’s games will not count for the competition. All teams will participate throughout 3 rounds of competition within their own grade. At the end of all rounds the final placing will determine who and how teams will enter the semi finals, finals and grand finals.

The draw will provide you with all necessary information. You can also go to our Volleyball website: www.thebegavalley.org.au click on community groups, than select Bega Volleyball on the left. You will find all necessary information for the season.

Your team will gain points as follows:
a win scores 2 points; a draw scores 1 point; and a loss scores 0 points

All round games will be played best out of five sets with a 50 minutes time limit. You will have 10 minutes warm up time before each game. E.g. your team plays at 7.30 pm – your warm up period starts at 7.30 pm, the game starts at 7.40 pm and ends at 8.30 pm.

Please ensure that you are on time for all your games.

If the last set is not completed due to time restrains, the set is classed to be being won when one team has reached at least 13 points and is leading by a minimum 2 points over its opponent (eg 18-16). If the set ends with a score below 13, the set will not count towards the final result of the game. If the set ends with a score above 13 but the margin by one team over the other is less than 2 points, the set will be classed as 1:1 (draw).

Finals and Grand Finals are played best out of five sets, no time limits. The games will be held on Centre Court. While all games and finals are being conducted on a Thursday evening, the Grand Finals will be held on Saturday, 13 September 2008.

When a team does not have 4 core-players at the start of the game (eg 6.40 pm), the team will lose the first set, 0 - 25. When a team does not have 4 core-players after 5 minutes from the start of the game (eg 6.45 pm); the team will lose the first and second set; 0 - 25, 0 – 25. A forfeit is imposed when a team does not have 4 core-players 10 minutes after the start of the game (eg 6.50 pm).

Players can substitute upwards into a team above their standard grade, but a player can not substitute downwards (eg a player from B-Grade can play in A-Reserve or A-Grade, but a player from A-Reserve can not play in a B-Grade team – unless special permission is given from the Committee).

As we have 15 teams but only 6 hours of court time each Thursday night, some teams will have “bye nights”. If your team does not appear on the draw on a particular night you will have a “Bye”. Teams play on court 1 and 2, so you need to refer to the full draw to ensure, that you know when your team is playing.
Two teams which have the last game at 8.30 pm, will have to referee all games for the evening prior to their own game. Two teams which will play at 7.30 pm will be appointed to referee the last games of the evening. From time to time it is required that you referee a team from another grade.

Registration:
You have to pay an individual registrations fee, which includes the cost of insurance and a separate team fee to cover the cost of hiring the stadium.

Registration Fee: Adult: $45 Junior*: $25
Team Fee: Adult Teams: $450 Junior Teams: $350
*Junior = student under the age of 18, or student over 18 at secondary school only

Please direct your payments for registration over the coming 4 weeks to our Treasurer. If you have not paid your registration by 22nd May, we cannot allow you to play beyond this date, as you will not be insured. Your team would have to play without you. For your and our protection we will inforce this deadline.

The Team Fee can be paid in 2 instalments. As we have to pay court hire on a regular basis, we need to collect 50% of your team fee no later than 22nd May. The second half has to be paid straight after the School Holidays on 31st July. The captain of each team needs to insure, that team fees are paid on time.

Annual General Meeting:
Each year we call for a general meeting according to our constitution where all positions on our committee become vacant and new committee members will be voted in to form the committee for the coming 12 months. We like to invite everybody to attend this meeting as it presents you with the opportunity to bring up issues you may be concerned about or you may wish to join the new committee. Ideally we would like to see players on the board from each grade, so that all players have representation.
The AGM will be held at the stadium on 15th May at 7.30 pm (the following game will start at 8.00 pm).

Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to any committee member of Bega Volleyball.

Enjoy the Volleyball Season 2008
