The Sea to Snow Journey (16-23 yrs) Entry by application and interview to an incredible landscape and environment learning journey for young people designed to meet requirements of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Three day overnight training camps before the six day Sea to Escarpment and nine dayEscarpment to Snow sections of the journey. Conducted as a sponsored walkathon involving boats, backpacks and bicycles. Funds raised by selected young participants will provide scholarships for future young participants.
Sustainable Living and Conservation (16+ yrs) - developed as a partnership with International Student Volunteers - A two week investigation of design for sustainable living. Sustainability focus includes water reuse, energy saving, koala and potoroo habitat recovery, river estuary protection, landcare discovery journeys, community contribution and celebration.
Energy Challenge and Discovery (13+ yrs) From 2 day to one week adventures in energy conservation making and learning by doing with natural and recycled materials. Includes journeys to bush and beach. Separately designed girls and boys programs.
Southern Rivers Landcare Adventures (14-16yrs) - developed as a partnership with the Far South Coast Landcare Association and Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority - Two night, three day projects about landcare and sustainability beginning on a Friday evening and finishing on a Sunday afternoon - (see Other Info in Project Forms for the latest) you might catch the school bus to Bermagui to join in - priority to young people from SE NSW but some places for those from further afield.

Certificate 2-4 Land and Conservation Management: Natural Area Restoration, Erosion and sediment control, observing and reporting plants and animals, constructing access tracks, inspections of designated areas, sampling and water testing, monitoring biodiversity, wildfire hazard reduction. Certificate 2-4 Community Services: Promotion and Support, Recruiting and supporting volunteers, Safe food hygiene, Ethical understandings, group activies, positive learning, cooperative behaviour. Certificate 2-4 Permaculture Design: Course unit owned by private provider Permaculture International Bachelor Degrees in - Outdoor Education, Eco Tourism, Social Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Community Development, Environmental Law. Purposeful Sustainability The Crossing is developing low energy and resource efficient systems as an education centre within a declared Conservation Area and adjacent to National Park and Nature Reserve. Landcare in the coastal forests and rivers, particularly koala and potaroo habitat recovery work, incorporates: educational trails, fencing of conservation areas, seed harvesting and saving, planting and mulching, energy efficient design, wood, solar and water conservation management, bushfire reduction and building with natural and reused materials.
Entry canoe/bushwalk, sustainability in action tour, site energy demonstration and wood selection and splitting, garden mulching/planting/harvesting, wholefoods preparation, trailwork, earth building, koala or potoroo survey and koala tree planting, spolighting, solo spaces, fire hazard reduction, conservation and landcare discovery walks and river journeys. Cost: From $85 to $65/person/night with some variations in price dependent on numbers, meals, accommodation, equipment and staff supervision required (river journeys and overnight landcare journeys involve longer days, additional equipment and higher levels of staff supervision) Visit Duration: From 2 day to 12 day live-in programs (usually Mon to Fri for schools and longer 12 day programs for tertiary age). Supervision: (staff/student ratio): one to eight (an accompanying teacher/supervisor is required with groups under 18 years of age) Numbers: Maximum group size of 16 will increase to 24 for 2009 Food: Provided, featuring whole foods and local organic produce where possible Amenities: Renovated wooden train carraige bunkhouse with wide verandahs, indoor and outdoor cooking, steam boiler shower and composting toilets. All solar power, solar and wood hot water heating with main hall kitchen in solar passive straw rendered hall with organic kitchen garden.
