Achievements

Young people attending The Crossing have:

  • completed many bush journeys including the Sea to Snow Crossing
  • contributed to Landcare work and threatened species survey efforts
  • helped grow and prepare whole food meals
  • assisted with building and landscaping
  • given their time and positive energy to a great region and community

Along the way they have gained:

  • teamwork and leadership skills
  • environment and design knowledge
  • practical tool use skills
  • recreation skills
  • organic gardening, horticulture, farming and bush regeneration skills

Some have continued with us to develop:

  • fundraising and marketing experience
  • guiding experience
  • counselling experience
  • management experience

The Board and Supporters of The Crossing have achieved:

  • approval of all building designs with development support and concessions from Bega Valley Shire Council
  • construction of a train carraige bunkhouse, staff quarters, directors residence, workshop, dams, gardens, orchard, gate hut, composting toilets, grey water recycling wetland, and soon a main kitchen and community hall
  • declaration of a conservation area on the property with National Parks
  • ownership of the land in a Trust and recognition of the Trust as an approved environmental organisation in Australia
  • 20 successful philanthropic grants  (Myer Foundation x2, Bermagui Lions Club, NRM Jobs, International Year of the Volunteer, Folk Rythm and Life Trust, IMB Community Foundation x3, Narooma Rotary, Bega Rotary, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Mumbulla Foundation x4, Continuing Australian Science and Scholarship Foundation, Federal Government Water Grant, Dept of Environment and Heritage Environmental Trust and Natural Resources Advisory Council.
  • 8 years of projects with secondary and tertiary students
