Job Network - Job Network Members (JNMs) are there to find suitable candidates for your vacancies. They lodge your vacancy and seek candidates from their own clients, other JNMs or the general public. Their service is professional and competitive. It takes a lot of the hassle out of recruitment. Here is a list of local JNMs Click to view and contact. Most jobseekers are registered with a Job Network Member.
New Apprenticeships Centre (NAC) - Employer area. - As part of Job Network service the NAC service is in place to assist you to make the most of Government apprenticeship and traineeship services under either Federal or State Awards. Read this excellent description. Here is the access page for the local NACs Just click on your choice for contact details. They are paid to make sign up easy - and they do a good job. I recommend you spend a little time researching the information and terms at the NAC site so you can ask the right questions and know what your obligations and benefits are. N.B. You usually contact a NAC after you have made a recruitment choice if you are employing directly. Make sure you understand the Award name and number. Remember that there are employer incentives for many circumstances.
Federal or State Awards ? Different industrial conditions apply for State and Federal Awards. It is the employers ultimate responsibility to know which Award they pay under. Federal Awards look at ... Wagenet. You can also go to Building Industry Specific Wage Info to see a very useful Federal Award info page that is more specific and you'll find Award compliance information you should see. State Awards look at State Awards - Office of Industrial Relations
There can be blurry lines between State and Federal but, as I understand it, DET (NSW Department of Education and Training) manages the training component of Apprenticeships (State or Federal) - whoever the RTO (Registered Training Organisation) is. Thus, an apprentice is signed up by a NAC through DET to attend an RTO for training (usually TAFE). For confirmation contact the local NACs for advice.
Alternatively, you can use Group Training. The advantage of Group Training is that you only hire when you require. A GTO (Group Training Organisation) hires the apprentice and then does all the Award, DET and TAFE administration and on-site pastoral work for you, as the "Host", for a modest fee. There are two non-government GTOs operating locally SERTEC and the HIA (Housing Industry Association Group Training).
State Awards are here again, for your convenience. Check for the appropriate job name based on duties and training with a JNM, your NACs, or contact your GTO for a quote at SERTEC or the HIA. Got that?
Compliance - Be careful to comply with Federal Awards legislation, see...Building Industry Reform...a "should read" page. You can also see the...National Building Industry Taskforce page here...another "should read" for employers.
