TBVSAT has no wish to apply censorship to content on this site. However occasionally people complain that content is offensive to them or unfit for children. To manage these complaints TBVSAT has formulated the Content Complaints Process outlined below.
Our first priority is to keep ourselves and other community members out of court as such....
If any TBVSAT member believes that any content may be illegal then they may hide the item immediately and consult the other members of TBVSAT. If another member of TBVSAT agrees that it is liable content the item will remain hidden and the author will be contacted ASAP.
A member of the community whom wishes to have content removed must make a formal complaint addressed to TBVSAT.
Once a complaint is received....
1) The item is hidden.
2) The author of the content is contacted and informed of the complaint.
3) The author is asked what action they would like to take.
4) The entire TBVSAT team is to be notified, via mailinglist, of details including nature of complaint, the content item in question, the position of both parties.
5) The complaintant is informed of the result.
6) If complaintant is not satisfied with the authors response they are requested to communicate (mediation by request) to resolve their issues. Refusal by the complaintant to engage this process will result in the replacement of the content. Refusal by the author to engage this process will result in the content being removed permanently.
7) If mediation can not resolve the process TBVSAT reserves the right to classify the content to be made available only to those members of the community who have shown proof of age and signed away their right to the complaints process (see "unprotected" group next section).
8) If mediation can not resolve the process TBVSAT reserves the right to make the final decision on the outcome.
The technology used to facilitate this process involves group access restrictions and the ability to hide a content element. Luckily this site is equipped with both those functions.
Any element may be hidden from public view without need to remove or alter the content.
Any element may be placed in a restricted group in which case it will only viewable by registered members of the restricted group once they have logged in.
TBVSAT has implemented a group called "unprotected". Due to the difficultlies of age verification membership to this group can only be handed out in person by a member of TBVSAT. Before membership is granted to this group the individual must forfeit their access to the complaints process.
Members of this group may place any content in this group to avoid offending members of the community.
TBVSAT may place content in this group if the complaints process is unsuccessful in resolving the issue.
TBVSAT endeavours to be proactive in protecting the children of The Bega Valley from inapropriate content. As well as the above process we are currently researching compliance with Net Nanny and other internet filtering software.
We will also be providing resources for concerned parents that we hope will be of assistance to them in protecting their children. This will posted in the resource section of this site.
