A Community Transport service using volunteer drivers to transport the frail aged and people with a disability to: general practitioners, local and metropolitan specialists, all hospital and medical appointments including X-ray, oncology, physiotherapy and pathology, day care, shopping and social events. Under certain circumstances transport can be provided to people who are geographically or financially isolated and are unable to use Mainstream Public Transport. For further information contact the phone number shown.

How Can We Help?

We can assist you with transport to get you where you want to go in your community. Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available as well as a community car service. We will pick you up from your home and deliver you to your destination and take you home again.

Where Can I Go?

You can travel locally to: Doctors' or Medical Appointments, Day Care, Shopping, Recreational or Visits to Friends. Other destinations agreed to by the office.

We can also transport you out of the area to medical specialists or for hospital treatment, etc. We can schedule regular runs for shopping and other visits.

Phone the office on 6492 4188 to make arrangements.

Who Is Eligible?

You are eligible if you live at home or in an independent living unit and are a frail older person, or if you are disabled (any age) with no access to transport. You are also eligible if you are caring for someone who fits the above criteria.

Disabled or frail means you find it difficult to do things as you used to or are unable to perform daily tasks without help.

You could also fit our criteria if you are isolated, with no means of using mainstream public transport or are financially or transport disadvantaged. We can also transport people who need to attend at a hospital or other specialist medical facility and have no other means of transport or can not afford to use public transport.

How To Arrange Transport

Telephone the Community Transport Service on 6492 4188 between the hours of 9 am and 4.30 PM, Monday to Friday. If you have any difficulties phoning, ask a friend, community worker, or doctor to arrange a booking.

You will need to book in advance.

We would prefer at least two days notice for local trips. Contact our office before making appointments in Canberra or Sydney as we may already have a trip arranged. We may not be able to confirm long trips unless adequate notice is given (i.e. one to two weeks). If you wish, we can give you a reminder call to confirm your booking .

If you are eligible and for some reason we can not transport you, it will not prejudice any future booking you might make.

What We Will Ask

You will need to be a Registered client. We will ask you some questions about where you want to go, what day, where you live, what your circumstances are and whether you need any special assistance.

Cancelling Your Bookings

If for any reason you are unable to use the transport arranged for you, please let us know as soon as possible (if possible before 4 pm on the day before your appointment). It is your right to cancel if necessary and will not prejudice your next booking.

What Will It Cost?

Limited funds for the service are provided by the Commonwealth and State Governments through the Home and Community Care Program (HACC) and the NSW Community Transport Program (CTP). These only cover part of the cost of providing transportation.

Like other HACC services such as Home Care and Meals on Wheels, you are asked to contribute towards the cost of the service. These Client Contributions are geared towards the amount you can afford to pay to help offset the cost of providing the service. Please inform the coordinator if you are unable to meet this cost as we will make arrangements to help you.

Suggestions, Complaints & Grievances

Your suggestions are most welcome. Most queries can be answered over the phone by the Coordinator or Manager at the office.

If you have a complaint or grievance, you, your carer or advocate can phone the Manager direct 6492 4174 or write addressed to: The Manager, PO Box 930, Bega, NSW 2550.

If you make a complaint and are not happy with the result, your complaint may be directed to the Management Committee who meet once a month. The phone numbers of the Management Committee members are available from the office. Procedures are in place to deal with these matters.

If you do not qualify under our normal criteria but are transport disadvantaged please phone us as we may be able to help.
