Concert of Last Month

Paul Greene

A chilly winter's evening on the 24th of June brought out a comfortable audience to the Candelo Hall to hear the performance of Paul Greene and his band. Daniel Champagne took the stage as the support act and tripped the light fantastic with dazzling guitar work, great vocals and a provoking repertoire.

Paul start off as a solo to be joined later by bass and guitar. The performance was littered with many anecdotes about what has been pauls wonderful spiral of life much from the past but it is the present that is generating his fascination great night of song music and storytelling.

Concert of This Month

DAMIAN COEN & THE FATHERS OF NECESSITY

(WITH DAMON DAVIES)

Saturday July 15,  Candelo Bowling Club,  $15

Damian Coen and The Fathers of Necessity is a four piece acoustic band comprising the following:

Damian Coen - Harmonica &Vocals

Damon Davies - Double Bass, Slide Guitar, Mandolin & Backing Vocals

Paul Johnston - Acoustic Guitar, Piano Accordion & Backing Vocals

Danny Freeman - Drums (Brushes) & Percussion

Gathered around Coen’s storytelling, ”The Fathers of Necessity” serve up an intoxicating brew of acoustic blues, gospel and hillbilly. Damian Coen is best known for his lyrical old-time blues harmonica, yet it is his captivating song writing that has led to recent awards and national recognition. His musical association with South Coast fave, Damon Davies, stretches back some 20 years, when they formed legendary Sydney jug band, “The Mudsteppers”. Davies continues to dazzle with his blues-drenched slide guitar and smoky double-bass lines. They are joined by Paul Johnston on acoustic guitar and accordion, and Danny Freeman on drums and percussion. Together, The Fathers of Necessity take you on a ride that weaves through the rich byways of roots music while somehow managing to take on board personal and political narratives of the modern day.

Courtesy of the Candelo Arts Society, The Fathers of Necessity will play at the Candelo Bowling Club on Saturday, July 15. The show kicks off around 7.30pm, and tickets are available for the very reasonable price of $15, at the door. Damian Coen will also have his award-winning CD, Six Lane Highway, available on the evening. Don’t miss this intimate and entertaining opportunity to catch some real music, up close and unadulterated.
