Communique....

 is a community development initiative of the Eden Access Centre.Aninformation technology based work experience program foreligible job seekers, Communique encourages participants and theirlocalcommunity to work together on worthwhile projects. Themainaim of the project is to assist in the creation of communitydevelopment network or interagency in Eden and surrounding areas. The purpose of the network is threefold:-

  1. To provide the means for members of community based, not for profit organisations to share information and resources.
  2. To explore ways of working together to address common concerns and to further the aims of each organisation by promoting their activities.
  3. To participate in an innovative, interactive community development forum, on-line on the World Wide Web (Internet).

Toachievethese aims over the coming months we will be contacting alllocalcommunity groups and undertaking the following activities:-

  1. Creating an up to date database of information profiling the activities of each organisation.
  2. Surveying those organisations about their needs and concerns for community development, including membership, promotion and resources and information technology.
  3. Inviting community groups to participate in the network through a variety of means including meetings, news bulletins and web based communications.
  4. Offering each organisation the opportunity to promote its activities on-line, through a custom-made web page on the Internet.

Specificactivities and tasks that project participants and volunteers will beinvolved in include:-

  1. Designing, distributing and collating feedback from our survey.
  2. Promoting the network through press releases, radio broadcasts, distribution of fliers and direct contact with organisations both in person and on-line.
  3. Interviewing members of community groups to gather profile information and background information for web pages including the use of digital photographic technology.
  4. Basic graphic design in a desktop publishing environment for the production of news bulletins and web page design.
  5. Basic web page construction.

Inaddition to the activities outlined above, participants will beoffered the opportunity to learn the basic use of office equipmentand computer

technology including the Internet.

Communique offers participants the opportunity to learn, work and contribute to a worth while community project in a supportive team environment.The Project commenced on 18th April 2005 and will run for approximately6months every Monday and Tuesday between 9am and 5pm at theEdenCommunity Access Centre. Eligibility for participation for most people will be via registration throughtheirlocal Job Network Member, however the Centre will also be accepting volunteers interesting in joining the project.
