Basic guide to adding words to your page

(1) Log in with your:

 username and password

on 'thebegavalley.com' home page.

(2) Click on ' People,Community Groups or Business' on the main menu on the front page as shown below:

*Note this process is the same for editing your personal page ,community group or business pages.

It is assumed that you are also using Internet Explorer.

 (3) The ' People, Community Group or Business ' page will now open up.

Now look for your name, community group or business as shown below in personal pages:

and click on your choice.

(4) As this is your first page you will be editing, what you will see is a collection of text and possibly an image that have been given to you only as an example. Do not worry if it does not resemble the picture below, it is only an example of the first page you are given.

(5) So now you are  closer  to putting some words (text)   on your page.

You will notice that there is a little box underneath the text on your page that looks like this:

(6) Anywhere you see the little pencil ( as highlighted below in yellow), you can edit something you have added to your page:

(7) Clicking that pencil button is your first step to adding   words  to your page. So  now click the pencil icon. What will appear now is:

(8) What you have in front of you is a basic text editing area. Even though it all looks  all a bit overwhelming at the moment ,you wont end up using a lot of these boxes anyway.

What matters right now are the following sections highlighted:

(9) 'A'  refers to the 'Header' or title of the text you are going to enter such as 'Joe Bloggs' World' .You do not have to add a title, you can leave it blank.

'B' refers to 'Align'. This means if you are putting a title in, do you want it on the left, centre or right of your page'?

If you dont make a  'Header' (title) you don't have to worry about 'align'.

'C' refers to text editing options. These are as follows:

The Style of the text called the 'Font'. Clicking this will make a small menu of choices appear.

Font size, or how big you want your words to appear. Clicking this will make a small menu of choices appear.

Choosing the colour of the words you are entering. Clicking this will make a small menu of choices appear.

Refers to text  changing to  bolder, angled or underlined.

'D' refers to 'save and close'. This is for when you have typed up your  words (text) and wish to save it onto your page.

You MUST, MUST,MUST save for your work to appear on your page.

(10) Now that you have the basics, you are now ready to enter some words.

Start by clicking

i)the style of text you want

ii) the size of the text you want

iii) and the colour of the text you want as mentioned previously

Other options:

i)  the 'B' button if you want bolder text

ii) 'I' for italics text

iii) 'U' for underlined text

Now begin typing your text in the large white box .

(11)  You have finished typing your text and are ready to save it, so scroll down to the bottom of  the text you have been typing in and click on the button that looks like this button below . It is called 'save and close document'.

  •  Remember- you MUST,MUST,MUST save your work using the save and close document button for your words to appear.

(12)  Now if you look at your page you will be able to see the text you have created.

Note:  you will also  still see the pencil beside your new text. As long as you are logged in  they will appear. When you log out the pencils will vanish and you will see the page just like any visitor to your page will see it.

  • Please also note the pencils will only appear on your own pages when you are logged in.

Well Done!! You have just added your first text to your page.
