Brogo Permaculture Gardens is a 5-hectare property where development began in 1994.
It is nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Bega Valley just north of Bega. The Brogo locality offers course participants a vibrant mix of climatic zones as well as social and cultural diversity.
Some of the features you will see at Brogo Permaculture Gardens are:-
- An owner built mudbrick home with an earth floor, hardwood timbers and an energy efficient cool cupboard.
- An active photovoltaic solar panel power supply, solar hot water and a slow combustion stove.
- Over 150 fruiting plants including nearly 50 different species ranging from semi-tropical to berries.
- An efficient and productive vegetable area attached to a managed poultry system
- Keyline features for water harvesting microclimate design with wind and fire as determinates
- Biological control of blackberries with a goat
- Creative living with children.
Two additional sites are visited during the weekend courses, which feature:
- Composting toilet and reedbed greywater system
- Loft house design owner built house with garden design featuring ducks and chickens.
