Media Release dated 4th Dec 2007

Candelo AH & DF Association will be holding their 121st Annual Show at Candelo on Sunday 20th January 2008. In the history of the show there have only been three occasions when the show was not held.

Regrettably, this year, under direction from the DPI & ASC, shows being held in January and February, will not be able to have any equine events. This is devastating to shows such as Candelo, who depend very heavily on the 'ring events'. We can usually expect 250-300 horse but it is the possible loss also of people attending the show to see the horse perform, that is a further blow.

Notwithstanding this problem, the Candelo Committee have every intention of putting on a show equal to what people have come to expect of us. We are all working hard to put in place some exciting attractions for the ring area and we are confident of some wonderful events.

This year will be the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Opening of the Main Pavilion. The Pavilion is highly regarded as a fine building and in recognition of the contribution by the Kameruka Estate over many years, the Pavilion will be officially named 'KAMERUKA ESTATE PAVILION'.

At the 2008 Show we are featuring a Special Woodchop event and we expect a large field of entrants. All the favourites will be ON including the Animal Farm, Kid's Kastle, Dog Hi Jump, Cattle, Poultry, Goat, and Dairy judging. We are also featuring a FABULOUS band from CANBERRA who will entertain throughout the day. Police vehicles, RFS, and SES will attend along with vintage cars and engines. The Karate Club will give a demonstration of their skills.

We will have a BBQ available, or you can lunch in the Pavilion, along with sweets and drinks for the children, and a bar for the big kids! The ever popular Watermelon Shop will be offering slices of cold watermelon.

We are asking everyone to come along and support the show. The whole event is staged with voluntary work by people from the area and their reward is seeing the enjoyment people derive from the day. This year is particularly important to give heart to all those that will be working hard to overcome our loss of horse events.

Candelo Show philosophy has always been to minimise the cost to attend and apart from food and /or drink, once inside the grounds, there is little likelihood of having to spend any money. Undoubtedly the best day's entertainment you will get on the South Coast for the price.
