Brassica oleracea

This the main group of edible brassica plants.

It includes common food plants like Broccoli, Cabbage, Kholrabi, Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts.

All the plants in the species are very high in Vitamin C and Calcium.

Seedsaving from these plants is difficult due to high insect cross pollination and the many varieties within the species that have such different forms. Crosses are highly variable.

The Brassica rapa species are widely used for the green leaves.

There are many varieties originating from Asian countries.

Bok Choy, Choy Sum, Wombock are typical plants.
