Pambula-Merimbula C.W.A. Branch celebrates 70 successful years.
Young enthusiastic members (approx 30 yr olds) started our branch in 1938. Membership cost 2 shillings, and a bank account opened with sum of 1pound 9 shillings and 3 pence and by December we had 3 pounds 4 shillings and 8 pence. By 1945 the branch had advanced to 12 members and by 1949, members had swelled to 42.
A baby health centre was first conducted at Godfreys Garage, with the sister attending from the local hospital twice weekly.
The land our rooms now stand on was bought for 50 pounds, and in 1950 a hall was built.
In 1978 Pambula branch were winners of the Charles Lloyd Jones Challenge Cup Trophy, plus $300 for the greatest increase in membership. State Conferences were held in Sydney annually.
Young women don't know what the C.W.A. has done for them in
the way of education and health. We've always been behind the children and have helped in many ways in schools.
The C.W.A. Has broken isolation for country women of all ages and brought women together world wide. We've participated in a variety of activities, both fun and educational.
The C.W.A. Is everywhere in Australia and many countries.
I urge young people to join, they don't know what they are missing.
Today our branch membership is 52 and we are all very proud to be celebrating our 70 years.
Pride in our past
Faith in our future
Happy birthday Pambula-Merimbula.
