Felting is a fun, tactile experience, making a wool fabric out of different coloured fleece, purely by making the fibres lock around each other. With felting you make flat felt artpieces, felt hats and slippers, bags, nuno felt onto fabric for clothing and much more.

8th Southern Hemisphere Feltmakers Convergence October 2005 in Canberra

some of the inspiring feltwork from the convergence

In 2005 I went up to Canberra to attend

the 8th Southern Hemisphere Feltmakers Convergence. A whole week

devoted to felting (pure luxury!)-not much practical time but plenty of

talks, slide shows, demos, exhibitions and fashion parades. Crikey-even

the stuff people wore to the talks was inspiring! It was great exposure to

the wider world of fulltime felters, fibre artists and very experienced

felters. Very inspirational.

So that's why I've come back wanting to get agroup started, so we can explore lots of ideas together, inspire eachother with all our different backgrounds and talents, and at least it meansthat I get to do felting at least once a month!

It's a very casual affair-noone's expected to come every time, and attendence will vary, but it's always a fun, relaxing and creative time.

Maybe we should aim for the 2007 convergence in Melbourne!
