ptab Maple sugar Max CampbellArrangement Ideas: Maple Sugar is a jaunty march in the key of A changing to E in the second section. This arrangement is as simple as they come - in fact I've just written down the chord basses, as played on the fly, while learning the melody from a friendly fiddler. As with Scollay's Reel, the open string basses provide a full sounding, ringing beat and make fingering the melody very straight forward. Playing tips: The little finger stretches to the 4th fret to pick up the G# and D# are the only bits of this piece that may require extra attention. You could try capoing up the neck, for a shorter scale length, to lessen the stretch while you get the tune flowing, but work up to playing in first position, as other musicians will know the tune in it's original key.
