We are working with the community in a collaborative partnership to develop the church land on Chandos Street into a community and cultural garden space that everyone can enjoy. The Project is open to everyone, in a way that encompasses all community members including those with disabilities, youth, elderly and indigenous people, regardless of their religious backgrounds or level of experience.

We have an open mind on what will develop. One essential element already occurring is community engagement. We welcome people contributing ideas, resources and skills and their participation in forming the Garden. Our vision is that the Garden may include places for:

feeding the body, healing the land
o bush tucker (place to learn about native food supplies)
o indigenous plants (low maintenance, low water requirements)
o vegetable, herb and fruit growing (functional and educational)

feeding and healing the soul
o sit, reflect and be
o explore a labyrinth with its ancient origins
o engage in outdoor worship/meditation

freeing the imagination, valuing creativity
o sculpture and craft
o story telling and exploring the community’s history
o connecting with the character of the community

Activities are planned on the basis of available funding and volunteer time. There has been active engagement of the community, monthly Community Garden meetings are held which are open to all and keep informed with local radio and newspapers.
