Loch Valley Highland Fold
Is situated on the Far South Coast of New South Wales at Wandellow, a lesuirely 15min drive west of Cobargo.
Established in June 2007 with the purchase of 2 registered cows Flora of Ben Eyrie & her daughter Jewels of Pickleberry, They were both in calf to a Square Meater bull. In November Laird Hewie of Arrandoon was purchased as our herd sire, they were later joined by Daphne of Arrandoon & Princess of Arrandoon. The Scottish Highland cattle breed is an ancient & hardy breed able to withstand very cold temperatures & they are able to "do better" than their modern day counterparts, they will thrive where other cattle breeds cannot. Some of the benefits of owning Scottish Highland cattle are:
1. Ease of Calving
2. Hardiness
3. Docile & Easy to handle
4. Longevity
5. Ideal for the smaller property
The Australian Highland Cattle Society's motto says it all -
"Highland cattle ... Good Looks ... Great Beef"
We use cell grazing with single strand electric wires to control the cattle. This allows more effective pasture management as well as improving weed control. These magnificent animals have a quiet nature, functionality and suitability for natural, high quality beef production. Our goal is to produce a beef animal that competes in the show ring as well as in a commercial setting.
Along with their quiet docile nature Scottish Highland cattle also come in a huge range of colours, Yellow, Red, Black, Brindle, Dun, White, Mahogny to mention a few
One of our goals is to help preserve Heritage Livestock Breeds. If you want the average run of the mill stock found on most of today's cattle properities/feedlots, then we are not the farm for you. If you are seeking old-fashioned quality with personal attention to detail then call us we may be the ones for you.
We raise all our beef without using hormones or antibiotics the way nature intended - Naturally you can taste the difference.
Currently the fold is only small comprising of 4 females, 1 bull & 2 crossbred calves. We plan to begin showing in 2009 with the calves that will be born later in 2008. We have been fortunate to have been able to purchase 2 heifers in calf to Haydon of Mac-Ladanae. Loch Valley Highland beed is available privately within our local area. We grow our beef naturally without hormones or antibiotics. Highland Beef is more tender, succulent & packed full of flavour than your average store brought beef we know you will love it.
Some of our other animals on the farm include
* Commercial Angus Cattle
* Aylesbury Ducks
* Silver Sebright chickens
* Bantam Saxony Ducks
* Chinese Silkies
* Old English Game - many colours can be found
* Mandarin Ducks
