August Sunday Run

The cold weather limited the number of participants in the August run, but regardless, eight cars and fifteen members had a great day.  After morning tea at Wallagoot Lake, we then travelled to Kianinny Resort in Tathra.  Members then inspected the wide range of accommodation, function halls and sporting facilities before having lunch at the historic Tathra Hotel.

MERIMBULA 28th JAZZ FESTIVAL

Sapphire Coast Historic Vehicle Club cars participated in the Grand Parade on Queen's Birthday weekend.

NAROOMA OYSTER FESTIVAL

The Narooma Oyster Festival, held during the weekend of May 17 and 18, certainly brought the locals out in droves.  Enthusiastic community involvement created a rather chaotic gathering of participants for the parade. There were fire trucks, life savers, schools, motor cyclists and of course the cars, which were an early attraction. There were six from our club and others from several car clubs within the region. Music was provided by jazz bands and the gymnastic dancers.

The slow pace of the procession produced a danger of overheating for the vintage cars, but we all made it.  We could always have swapped our cars for camels!
Maggie Beer, ‘cook’ and ABC personality, drew an immense crowd - including local Federal member Mike Kelly - as she talked about the many ways to prepare oysters.  And, then there was the oyster shucking competition, Aboriginal craft, and free beer tasting which took the editorial staff away from duties for a short time.

The predicted weather held off for the day, so this inaugural festival in honour of the oyster was without doubt, a great shuck-cess.  Ouch!

van Niekerk Express!

On May 4, a sizeable number of members - and their grandchildren - took advantage of an invitation from Club members, Cynthia and Barrie van Niekirk to visit their forty acre property at Tilba. The property is situated with a breath-taking view of Guluga (Mount Dromedary) in one direction, and the waters of the Southern Ocean in the other.
A fabulous morning tea in a shed full of 'treasures' preceded a walk around the property where the historic vehicles are housed. Barry and Cynthia have been living on the property for ten years and during that time have completed a remarkable number of projects - not the least being a model train capable of carrying up to twelve people. This does not include Barrie the loco driver and Cynthia the guard!
