These English steel bells at the Monastery are heritage listed. They originally rang in an Anglican Church in Randwick, Sydney. Made in Sheffield England, they have reached an unlikely home in a remote part of Australia!

Greenseas Cannery Talk - Stan Soroka - Eden

South East History Group - Nov '09

On Saturday November 7th, Merimbula Imlay Historical Society members met with  neighbouring historical groups for a quarterly get together. We met at the Eden Killer Whale Museum and enjoyed a lovely morning tea before hearing a talk by Stan Soroka about the Greenseas cannery. It is 10 years since the closing of the cannery. We then proceeded to the site of the community hall which unfortunately was demolished in the early 1970's. Rob Whiter gave a very interesting talk at the cannery site at Cattle Bay, which was followed by a visit to the log cabin. The log cabin was established by J.R. Logan in 1936. Many thanks to our hosts in Eden for a lovely day! The next meeting of the South East History Group willl be held in Bega during February.

THE ROBBIE BURNS HOTEL WYNDHAM

Members and friends of the Old School Museum met at the museum for a bus tour around the Pambula Wyndham area. Liz was at the helm with Jim telling stories and relating many historical events which have yet to be documented. Lunch was had at the Robbie Burns hotel in Wyndham. We all sat in comfort on the air conditioned bus as the storm rolled in for our return journey to Merimbula. Many thanks go to Bega Valley Shire Council for donating the use of the bus from Deane's bus lines. Thank you to Jim McGrath for donating your time and retelling all those interesting stories which so many of us have not heard before. Thank you also to Val for the concept and getting the trip organised.
