Rachael Tucker (ISV) wrote: 'As regards what I gained from the experience, well I think most of all I want to help more in terms of doing volunteer work. The course unit which I am actually doing ... is all about business, morals and ethics and to pass you have do a number of weeks of volunteer work in a year. This might seem quite incidental but actually had I not done the project at the crossing I would never have chosen it! i find it easier to see 'the bigger picture' now in that I don't just think oh what difference can one little person make but now I'm more positive and think sometimes little things can make a big difference!
More directly to what I gained in terms of environmental awareness I feel like I have learnt a lot about sustainability and about what things I can do now to help. Special Year 6 Journey

Part of the Bermagui Year Six journey into High School now includes a special Energy Challenge journey to The Crossing. 12 students trialled the first program in December 2007 bushwalking from school to the Crossing for a volunteering experience. The students learnt about native animals, energy smart design, reuse of lots of things and completed their nestbox making and other camp tasks with a big river journey to canoe back to school on the following day.

Two week certificate permaculture design course accredited by TAFE
Spring 2008 (the last week of school hols plus four days into the new term)
Based at The Crossing and run by John Champagne, Hugh Gravestein and guests
6-17 October
$950 inc all day meals & 2 x dinners.
Bunk Accommodation -$250 - Camping on Site -$200

It kept many winter crews warm(ish) and it was painted by the Bombala Girls one verywet day. Now it is all resources again and the main hall and the fire pit have taken over warming duties
